On the eve of great social change, I would like to remind you how we got to where we are. Glenn Greenwald lifted the veil on the NSA. Good. Very good. We now know that we live in an Orwellian society. But what kept us from knowing that was a culture of mass hypnosis, of tweets, pics, videos, instagrams, friend requests, and text messages, endless barrages of pleasurable distractions to keep us from thinking deeply about important things. I think we all know what a tyrannical government looks like, but do we know what a self-policing society looks like? Or a society that resigns itself to be ruled in favor of entertainment?

I think we should brush up on our Huxley.

“It is safest to grasp the concept of the postmodern as an attempt to think the present historically in an age that has forgotten how to think historically in the first place.”

Fredric Jameson on the mind in the 21st century (when he wrote about it in the 80’s). Word.
